I only own one magnum rifle. It is the 8mm Remington magnum. I talked about it lovely on occasion on the old website.
I have used it sparingly since I quit traveling overseas. This last Sept was the second time I have used it in the last dozen or so years.
I had received another moose permit and decided that I would use it this time, as it may well be my last one at my age.
I use the 220 Sierra Game King. It was one of the first bullets available for hand loading that was suitable for the 8mm Mag.
It is accurate and has always performed well for me. If I was going to hunt dangerous critters with it I would bend to the Nosler
Partition, as they have been satisfactorily performers for me where needed. I am old fashion and don't have the habit of trying
new things if something has stood the test of time with me. I use a good dose of 22 Reloader and CCI mag primers in Remington cases.
To make a long story short, I am a meat hunter (especially when it comes to moose) and took my trophy Maine bull in 1994 with my .41 Ruger revolver (62 1/4 inch spread). This time (2014) I passed on two bigger bulls the first couple of days and finally caught a young bull running across a clear cut. I put the cross hairs under his chin and the bullet hit him at the junction of the neck and shoulders. He hit the ground so hard that his right horn was imbedded in the ground.
My friend up the road from me had a range finder on it when I fired. He said it was 220 yards. When we got it cut up into back pack portions of carrying size chunks and lugged it out to the truck, it seemed to be more like a half a mile. We had to climb through and over slash to get back to the truck with the meat.
I was surprised either one of us old F _ _ _ _ didn't trip and fall or have a heart attack.
This kind of hunting starts to wear on you when you get past the young age of 70.
