Went to the Tulsa gunshow yesterday and found it. I passed it by, son in law saw it and ask about it then came and got me to look at it. I passed because it was RUFF looking. I didn't even look at price as it was that ruff (Mauser action wearing a semi sporterized mil stock). I figured a POS 8mm and left it there. Ok, got back and got to talking the seller. Seems his dad built it in the late 70s and it was good shooter. I was still not impressed. Actually I knew nothing of the 240 Gibbs, off we go again to look it up on internet. Ok! now interest is back. Go back and talk some more - Bottom line is its here at home with me. Bore looks great, supposed to be a Lothar Walther barrel with he thinks around 2000 rounds down it. I guess it actually looks ok as far as basic metal work but compared to some of my other "reworked" Mausers it looks like POS with that damned stock. Has Williams sights front and rear - ramp front and peep rear. Its a tad short in the butt end for me but if it shoots well I will invest in new stock, for now I will cut a spacer to get in out to my LOP and find out how bad/good it really is. Just what I needed a distraction just before gun season opens. But like S I L said if it shoots well he may take it just for shits and giggles. If its a POS he gets blamed for even inducing the idea of something "you" can play with. Ok, now for the question, had anyone had any experience with one of these or do I get to go at this blindly. I know Stu has 240 Weatherby but this in no magnum, from looking on the net its basically a necked down blown out -06 (or any of its family). I have a few bullets left from playing with daughter 243 win now just order a set of dies and see I guess. Ant and all help is gratefully excepted.
Thanks up front,
Joe
