I had an oral surgeon ask me if I had any surgery under general anesthesia? He was an older doctor with an apprentice. I told him I had my tonsils removed in 1960 with ether as an anesthesia. His apprentice was acting shocked as he had never heard of that used for surgery in his training. The old doctor told him it wasn't considered anesthesia back then. I've had a few surgeries since then that were considered under general anesthesia. He was trying to estimate the risk with me.
I've been feeling poorly lately and have been getting the 2024 healthcare treatment. I complained to my PCP about crippling pain in my knees. I thought it was sciatic pain as it came on when I lift boxes of candles to stack a pallet. The PCP referred me to an orthopedic doctor who x-rayed my knees. He saw the screw threaded rod in my right femur and remarked, when did that happen? My reply was mid 70's from a motorcycle wreck downtown Phoenix. His reply was "we don't that anymore" and when asked, I was the first living patient he saw with that. His x-rays show I need knee replacements but offered me anti-inflammatory injections which along with knee sleeves have allowed me to function to a point.
Now lately, I have been losing weight and have abdominal discomfort. I have been wowed by the latest medical wonder test equipment. A lot has been revealed by my 68 years of my abusing lifestyle. CT scans with contrast revealed I have a fatty liver likely caused by 50+ years of alcohol consumption (there was a medical name for that). 50+ years of smoking tobacco has not caused lung problems, but it is a factor in my calcification in my arteries as seen in images from a machine called a ct scan with contrast. The vascular surgeon also said he has seen the same result from coffee and tea drinkers. That is me too.
I just did a nuclear stress test this morning. He said I was low risk and call him. I thought that test was going to kill me and couldn't sleep last night. I didn't feel a thing. All of this was caused because a test done by my PCP revealed I have an aneurism in my abdominal aorta at less than 5 cm. They fix that with a stent. Problem is that my scans show that area looks like a worm instead of a tube. It's either through the groin or through the abdomen. General anesthesia for those.
My PCP has scheduled me for a scope down the throat to see if my abdominal discomfort is gastrointestinal. That is not done with general anesthesia but some psychedelic my wife had when she had eye surgery. She said you won't recall a thing. So, so far other than the aneurism, nothing has come up yet to explain my loss of appetite and weight loss and feeling of weakness and exhaustion at very little exertion except the symptoms of fatty liver disease and all of it is me for my life choices. I always knew that life catches up to us.
