Ok I did give this an actual test drive today. We had the 358 in a lever gun and a 308 in bolt. We managed to take 4 hogs, no pigs today all were above 180lbs. I used the 308 and the guest used the 358. I ate some crow... I made the statement no way could the 358 out do the 308 on the hogs. Ok, no brush to get in the way and we were in a 10ft high stand. We both shot 2 each and his never walked more than 3 steps, I had one run about 30yds before nose diving. All were clean shots to the heart area, I didnt want to upset the test by only doing headshots so as not to cause any unevenness with the test. We brought one of his home and gave the others to the tribes' food bank. So now we got more meat to put up LOL. All were close to the 75yd range, one may have been farther but if so, not much.
He was shooting the 200gr FTX over Acc2529, I was shooting the 180AB over IMR4064. the 358 runs right at the posted factory speed for the 200gr bullet. The 308runs a bit faster than Rem posted factory loads. We have the firearms to clean now with meat hanging in cooler. Would stay and help the girls can but I have treatment later so need a shower and a small meal before. Told the kid she should get on and post the canning they were doing, not a new recipe but one that works well for us. Guess we will see how well I am listened to LOL.
The 358
the 308
It has an 18in heavy threaded barrel but didnt use suppressor to keep things even. Another reason for the 308 rifle is is has a 9.5 twist and its made for heavy bullets.
