Earlier my male house guest and I had a discussion over which is best, the 308 or the 358win. His choice was the 358 and he had stuck to it no matter how much I show him the 308 is just better. His main sticking point if the 358 has a heavier bullet and therefor better in the brush. Sure, it may not shoot as flat but with proper bullets it will go the normal hunting distance with ease. I see that but you cant find the 358win anywhere or at least not around here. Yes I have a 358 lever gun that has been a great deer rifle but it still wont stick to my same model rifle in 308. Dont have a 358 bolt gun so I cant really work on all aspects but I'm still holding to the 308. But my guess is it one that is legal where he is from, down here we can use about any rifle but bullet must be 55gr though. That is a factory load must come in 55gr, not a reloaded with one. Meaning a 22 Hornet loaded with a 55gr bullet is still illegal. And all rimfires are illegal period.
My grandson in law ask why I dont have a 358 bolt gun I have everything else known to man LOL, I'm not quite that bad but I do have a few of other calibers. My daughter took him out with my 6.5PRC and I think he is in love LOL. but then its guaranteed to produce nice tiny groups LOL. She could only take him to a 300 yd range but that was enough to test him in her words. Guess he passed because she started called him nephew lol. Hope he doesnt have ideas - Im not planning on forking it over anytime soon and Im not springing to that kind of BD present LOL.
Ok my question is how does the conversation fit with you uns. No worries any comments cant cause me to fuzz up, I just like input from both sides. I mean I am one who has hunted deer with a 50/90 sharps and its a good clean killer, if loaded right that is. And even a slow moving 500gr bullet tends to take them off their feet then and there.
