For National Forest land and just pulling off in a wide place. I love squirrel hunting so lets go to a place that isn't far from home and go into the unknown. First thing I'm looking for is semi open hard woods that might hold some nuts, with some flats and hills. Find one and pull over. Soon as I get out,, pretty good sign and that was one barking, on the hill side. Next was one over my head in a white oak. No shooting from road so, time to walk. Since I bust clays fairly well and decent with shotgun,, ONLY TAKING 6 SHELLS. I ease into the woods and it is alive with tree rats, so I make a plan on how to get set up, with the best shooting position. O yeah by the way, limit is six. My thinking of what was going to happen after the first shot, was spot on and wanted to start at tree to the left and work to the right. That was great until someone did not pick up the few that was in full get out of here, at 40 yards or less. I didn't follow thru and pulled trig at tails, basically. Now I'm out of shells LMAO and tree rats, stilll cutting on hickory nuts. After the palm on head and a what the heck, head to truck with a few. Not going back and have caused enough interruption there LMAO. Still early morning and not giving up and warmed up now. I stopped at another place and not a sound, but pretty. Walk about 1/4 mile and start to hear the sound of tree tops shaking, with no wind. Hum, there is a squirrel up ahead. 4 to 8 steps at a time with a minute or so break each,,, and nothing. Ok, lets check this place out and looking good for deer. Yep, found a nice place to do that too! After getting a lay of the land and a decent walk, I notice tops of trees shaking and see a bushy tail. Found another patch of hickory's and scoped things out well. Wow and this place is full of them.
No follow through problems this time and finished up limit.
