If it ain't one thing it's another. I have been fighting intermittent internet and no cable TV since Thursday night around 10 pm. Cable company has been called multiple times, and they will have someone come out on Wednesday. I thought I had everything else all covered. Well guess again. I had water trickling in the house to make sure the pipes didn't freeze, as of late last night there is no water in the house. The bladder tanks and supply line come into an old milk house that is below ground by about 5'. I have that insulated and put a ceramic space heater in there that is on a low temp thermostat. On at 32°F, off at 35°F. The water pipes run under the house in the crawlspace, and my central heating heat ducts (single wall galvanized) run through the crawlspace too. I purposely have been running the forced air furnace instead of the wood insert to keep warmish air in the crawlspace - I am sure that the hot air from the furnace is heating the crawlspace too. Typically that is enough to keep the pipes down there from freezing.
I guess it's off to Lowe's to see if they have another space heater, then I climb down into the milk room to see if there's a problem there. If not, then it's under the house or the well pump took a dump. I'm just going to shut off the power to the well and wait until Monday to call a plumber. The water pipes in the house are a mixture of galvanized and black pipe, and have been in place for at least 69 years. Last time I was in the crawlspace I saw that they had wrapped newspaper and carpet around some of the pipes as insulation. The date on the newspaper was 1953...... I'll have the plumber band-aid it until it warms up then have them replace ALL the plumbing in the house with PEX and also replace all the drains - those are made from galvanized pipes too.....
Just the way I wanted to spend Christmas Eve. At least I don't have kids in the house, nor am I expecting a house full of people.
