I screwed up. I loaded some 180g Accubonds for the .308 and while the load is 1/2 or less MOA in my FN SPR, it does about 3/4 MOA in my Kimber Mountain Ascent. I am going on an out of state deer hunt and a customer wants me to come over and do a cull tomorrow night (try to shoot 2 with one shot if possible and they are lined up or maybe if I'm far enough away and use the can they will let me get more than one shot off). SO, I need a tougher bullet and this is what I have loaded already (but I only have 6 left..... The gun is all sighted in and verified out to 200 yds. Dead on at 100, 5.25" drop @ 200. He's got 10-20 deer that come out into the field at the same time in the same area.
The problem is I don't know what powder I used........ I did some light searching in my load data sheets on the computer and I cannot find the load.
40.4 grains of powder. It's an extruded powder, not a ball powder or flattened ball powder.
Here's the load data (that I can verify).
Nosler Accubonds 180g
Lapua brass
? primer
40.4g of ? powder
OAL is 2.840"
Base right above case head is .002" bigger than an unfired cartridge
Primers look normal
FPS was measured 12 feet from the muzzle
2460, 2464, 2480. This is with a can on the barrel, without the can I measured 2454, 2465, 2470.
Now for the powder:
.029"-.030" dia, .055"-.065" in length. Typical powder color. It fills the case to the shoulder, so I'd say it's at 100% fill or slightly compressed, I can't hear any powder moving around in the loaded case.
According to Nosler, the powders that can be used (and that I have) are IMR 4895, IMR 4064, Varget, RL 15 W748 and W760. I will open all those jugs later tonight (got a tight schedule this afternoon/evening) and see what looks to be the closest to what is in the cases.
What's your thoughts?
Thanks!!
