Its 5:18 am, and as I type this, its throwing a combination of rain, sleet, and snow out...perfect. I'm headed down to my buddy's for a last run of the musky on our hotspots before the ice shows up.
I may get a few more local trips in, who knows?
Yesterday I topped the boat off with fuel, test fired the 60 hp Johnson, and packed the explorer with gear. For a 27 year old boat engine, it fires up on the 3rd spin of the flywheel no matter how warm or cold it is...with each cylinder hovering at 115 psi compression, I think she has alot of life yet. I may rebuild all 3 carbs on her and replace the reed plates this winter, but I've been saying that for 4 years, lol.
I love my firearms, but there is nothing like the feeling of a big fish jerking the thin braided line seperating you. For me, it is an equal feeling releasing him back in the water and thinking "let em' go and let em' grow", I can't honestly say I've caught the same fish twice, but I'd like to think I have.
This time of year, most of the weekend wariors have winterized their boat and have pulled the bow out for hunting season...Not me, lol, I'm the idiot with multiple layers of long undies on, freezing my rear end off trying to catch just one more fish. I'm also the idiot out there first thing in March breaking the paper thin ice that formed overnight hoping the water will open up before I get to my first hole of the day.
People ask me why I spend so much money and time chasing fish (I don't keep, lol) when I could buy it at the store...I still don't have an answer, but I guess if you're the type who is asking the question, you wouldn't understand it if I had an answer, lol...
Once again, just ramblings from a tired member,
