Howdy,
I've been on a multiple year hiatus and stumbled here while looking for the old RLB board. Good to be back. I'm looking for an opinion on 6mm bore rifles. I had an old Rem 788 in 6mm Rem that I sold a number of years back. Well, I still have 1000+ bullets I never reloaded and I'm thinking of picking up another 6mm, but I'm not sure if I should go with a 6mm Rem or a different cartridge.
The primary use would be punching paper, since I already have a Swede and a 7-08 for whitetail. I don't want to drop a bunch of money into a 'fun gun' but would still like it to be accurate. I'd love to find another 6mm Rem but refuse to pay the going rate on Gun Broker, and can't find one locally obviously. With the price of used, I'm tempted to just go new. But then I run across a sharp looking Rem 700 VLS online and then think I need a 'nice' rifle. In other words, I don't know what the heck I want, other than I don't need anything faster than the 6mm Rem. Don't want to burn that much powder just on paper.
So, I'm thinking either a 243 Win or a 6mm Creedmoor if I can't find a 6mm Rem. Wouldn't mind having it in a varmint style since I won't be lugging it around the backcountry. I'm thinking Howa/Vanguard, Tikka, Savage, CZ, or Ruger. Obviously everything is out of stock right now so I'm not in a hurry, but it's a fun mental exercise.
Or do I just sell my lot of .243 bullets and be done with it?
What do you all think?
