had some fits and starts, but, works now...
I have a USB "thumb drive", and it contains......
1) PUPPY LINUX... a really small, tiny LINUX operating system. Runs off the flash drive, and its tiny and small and fast... just does the basics, like browsing (posting with it now, lol) and email and such.
2) UBUNTU latest version LINUX... basically a full size LINUX operating system that runs off of the flash drive. You can run it off the flash drive, or, i installed it also on the hard drive in its own partition. Its there in case windows takes a PUKE, then i can get into LINUX and save files before nuking the hard drive. I also browse internet, do email, and downloaded a CAD program and such.
3) HIRENS 10.6... this is a UTILITY DISK, and its "useful" in some situations. It boots and runs off the thumb drive too.
4) KALI Linux... this is my penetration testing and networking installation. It runs live off the thumb drive cause i have somee issues not knowing how to put it onto the hard drive exactly right, but i am happy with it on the thumb drive.
==========================================
a hacker can take out WINDOZE or the whole hard drive can crash? and i can still get on and post, pay bills, email, etc etc.... and can likely save files if windows takes a puke.
i am now extremely happy, and have lots of options.
====================================
NOW when i am over someones house, and they have a trashed computer? or one the hard drive puked on it? or windows pooped kittens and blew drivers and wont do anything?
i can just set the computer to boot from the tiny FLASH DRIVE, and they can be on the internet in seconds. I can wipe the hard drive and install UBUNTU if they only need to email and internet.
if the computer owner isnt HOME and i am faced with a password protected computer? again no problem... i press f12 when booting up, and boot from the USB drive on my keychain? and i can check my email anywhere, LMAO... when i pull off the flash drive and power down? they will never know i used their computer...
