My cousin gave me a Rem Sendero in 25/06 to develop a few loads for. He's had it for 25+ years and a guy that was supposed to do it started drinking and moved away so it's been sitting and collecting dust in his safe since then. I'll have to dig it out of the case and get the particulars on the rifle.
The rifle:
Rem Model 700. Sendero in 25/06. Serial # C6897xxx Scope is a Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x40 1" tube, NOT target turrets. Adjustment is marked 1 click = 1/4 MIN. . Leupold base/rings, dual dovetail front, adjustable for windage rear. Looks like it is a 26" barrel, HS Precision (?) synthetic stock, jeweled bolt. No idea on trigger pull, he said it's seen less than 10 rounds thru it so I'll probably be breaking it in before I start any serious reload work.
He wants me to develop 2 different loads for it. He doesn't reload, and he's in Wyoming, and I have a year to get the work done.
Here's his criteria:
300 yd zero. It won't be a strap over your shoulder and walk type of gun, it is too heavy. so it'll most likely be a drive/spot/shoot or walk a short distance from the truck, sit and call type gun. He doesn't think he will be shooting over 500 yds. with it. Since his and my elevation is so different, he will have to spend some time shooting it after I'm done to get new drop data - we are around 5,000 feet different in elevation. I have to get loads for hot and cold weather, that won't be a problem as I have time to shoot in the winter and again in the summer.
Load #1.
Coyotes during cold weather. Something that will NOT ruin the hide. The pelts there are going for good money and since he is now retired he can spend some time chasing them.
Load #2.
Antelope during hot weather - anywhere from 70's to 90's ambient temp wise.
I don't have brass or dies. I have different powders, a good selection of primers and some .25 cal bullets since I have two 257 Wby's. I will be reloading 40-50, (maybe 100) rounds of each load for him, and am toying around with the idea of using 2 different brass mfg's to tell the difference between the loads. Thoughts on this or would it not matter?
I could see him sending me the brass in October and me loading the shot brass for him and hand delivering it to him when I see him during the annual deer hunt in Wi. to save on ORMD shipping charges.
Shooting won't be a problem, I have a 350 yd range around 50 yds from the back door of the house.
So, what bullets/loads/brass should I be acquiring for this? I'll do some searching around for dies, for some reason I have a Lee collet sizer in 25/06 but never had a rifle of that caliber. no bullet seater or FL sizing dies for it.
Pickle, I know you sent me data on what you used, but I got finger happy cleaning up text messages and deleted it when I was bored waiting for a deer to walk by and was passing the time by cleaning up the phone.
