I did some work today at a place off the farm and the owner there ask me if I could get rid of a beaver that he has been trying to dispatch all summer and so far the beaver is winning.. I told him I trapped them as a kid and still have the traps so I would give it a try. My question now - are they worth trying to skin and eat?
way back I just took them to the fur man and he did all that and still paid me a decent price.. Right now the hide will be worthless - the hair hasn't set for sure with all the warm weather we have been having. And with all my we don't kill for the fun of it talks with the kids I thought I might see if they are really eatable.. Ok I know you can eat them but you can eat a real crow too -- I wouldn't unless I was starving but it can be done.. My question is has anyone ever ate one and are they worth the effort or if I do catch it just toss in the gully and walk away - I know all the jokes -- cook it on a slab of cedar eat the cedar and toss the rest kind of stuff.... Is it worth the effort to skin and is it really tasty enough to eat for pleasure???
Right now he says just a single beaver but I thought they lived in at least pairs.. May do a stalk to see if I can see it in the daytime.. the 222 would make short work of the problem.. and if I was prone I might get a nap in too.. LOL Tear a hole in its dam and wait to see who comes to fix it.
