The rifle being built is not for me but I will be doing everything but the actual chambering. I had Blkpwdrbuff send me a couple of his 400 Whelen cases and the son fell in love.. I got lucky or blessed as all get out as I ordered it from Pac-Nor because they had a couple in the rack.. I guess mine shipped just before the fire, I was kind of thinking I would end up with the order cancelled but...
He wants one built on his Axis.. I would have used something a bit more substantial but its not me. He loves the Axis and has them in 25-06, 270, 30-06 and now will have this one... and they all wear plastic.. He picked the donor action up used at the pawn shop - didnt even shoot it to see if it shot before he pulled the barrel.. I guess thats the nice thing about the Axis it was a short action and will now be a long action - just ordered the parts to convert it and the barrel goes to the smith next Monday and he will need 2 weeks plus - its hunting time and he has real money customers LOL.. I understand, he said he can do it in a few hours once he actually gets it on the lathe.. he is just covered with money making last minute things from some of his high end customers. He does tell you up front he is backed up so its not a big surprise and Hell I would jump on an easy buttpad change or mount and bore sight a scope for an astronomical amount just because they want it now.
I will work on getting pictures as I go - all except the tear down as I got the donor in pieces -- But it gives me a chance to stiffen the stock while I am waiting.. I can show that but there is not much to it.. almost a copy of what pickle did to his Vanguard.
