Hey Y'all. This isn't really about reloading so if the thread needs to move, please do so. I got to have some answers about the Garand.
I've been considering the Garand from CMP. I can get into one for $650 so it's expensive for my earnings but it's a Garand! So I've been reading up on them and have found out that mil spec for them is 4moa! That's not what I would be wanting i don't think. A little more reading and it seems CMP spec is 5.5 moa! Really?
I understand these specs, they would do what needed doing at the time but surely someone has tweeked the moa down to 2 or maybe sub moa. I've been all over youtube and haven't seen anyone that has a Garand shooting a respecable MOA. Yes, you can get the M-1d in 308 or 3006 but they are going over $3000. Not in my budget!
So I guess my question is, do I really want a Garand? I'm short, thin , old, and in poor health. The 5 lb carbine would fit me better, especially if i nneded to be moble. I'd like to have one of those too but I know they are not the powerhouse of the Garand. I've always loved th Winchester 100 in 308. 4+1 capacity but it's a carbine size weapon. I wish I knew more about the remington 760, 7400, 7404, but I haven't heard good or bad about them.
Going the other direction, the M1a1 is heavy but sweet! I understand accuracy also. Going to have to drop $1000 + on that easy enough. That's a lot of money also.
Y'all have the knowledge, what do Y'all think about these weapons and what direction i might want to look into?
Thanks,
Wade
