Both of the girls who hunted here this morning got nice does but not without some threats on both sides. My little hunter was ready to give up because she was cold.. I told he rif we went in before the others she was done for the season. She decided she would tough it out for a little longer. Like clock work - as soon as I poured us a cup of coffee here they came... 4 does all frisky and playing around, they walked out into the clearing and she shot the closest one to us.. not the biggest but one she knew she could take, I ask why that one later and that was her answer. As we were climbing down we heard the other girl shoot and we stood still for a minute to see if anything would run by us. So I called to see if they others needed a cart to haul the bounty back. Yes please was all I got in all the hoopla I heard LOL.. Ok its not her first deer but it is her first with mom.. so it was an all girl team. Got back and got them dressed and my hands were cold I went in to warm up some - I think I am getting old and soft, the cold seems to bite harder than in the past. Anyway I just got my coffee poured when they all came in grabbed a cup and got in line LOL. Granny came in and we promptly got in trouble for not proper cleaning up before parking at her table.. Ok we were still half blood stained but I for one needed to warm up, ok the warm water and soap would have been better but my mind didnt go that way...
Havent heard from the "men" yet but they probably wont call until they are headed home and will be asking if there is room.. Really we dont need the pork but I know the little dudes will want to keep one anyway. I do know they were to take 3 doe for the tribe and I hope they worry about that first (except the boys anyway). The men can take them under the Tribal exemptions but the boys are youth hunting.. And I did tell everyone the tribe wants the deer skins so let the owners boys do the cleaning... they will do it with all the customs needed to make the skins acceptable for use.
We just finished fresh deer liver cook on a fire (ok in the fireplace on hotdog sticks LOL) and not a gripe heard from anyone... It may just be me but nothing better that fresh liver cooked until its crispy over a real wood fire... Right now we are waiting on the city girls mom to come for her and her deer - her other grandpa wants to help with it and he is pretty much non ambulatory anymore so Its skinned and in a bag waiting on pickup. The way he ended up that is my biggest fear - he retired and just sat around enjoying the so called easy life.. give me some work to keep me busy and moving, I am slowing down as it is but I will not just find a chair and park..
