We had a mini reloading class today, didnt go as I expected but still was a good thing. I worked over the boys trigger and its now at 18 to 20 oz and he is tickled. I dont think the thing has had the stock off in years.... it was stuck the the metal with gunk.. trigger was full of same said gunk.. I thought he was going to have a coronary when I started takign it apart. While the parts were in the sonic cleaner I started him on resizing his brass. al he had was what he shot -- I fixed him up he was using Winchester so we found him about 100 pcs of Win in the the same lot number I had stashed. I had one full length size them on the big Lyman press and he didnt even mash a finger.. Tom helped him prime them while I put the trigger back together.
He watched me put it back on the rifle and I told him do not ever take it off on your own. bring it out or take it to a gunsmith until you understand how people shoot themselves with home done trigger jobs. When I got it back together I had him try it - it dry fired before he was ready and I told him it has a real trigger now dont jerk just pull slowly. Then we tested it and it came off and 18oz or 20loz each time from then until we quit testing.
We was sent him home with 40 of his own reloads, albeit under two sets of eyes but he was cool with us hovering. I told him the others are his and when he has time call and show up. I also told his wife the same thing but she at least has been saving her brass.. She has 20 but like I her she doesnt need to shoot it everytime she goes shooting.. we know where it hits and thats all she needs to worry about for now. take it out 3 or 4 times a year just to check its POI and clean it well and put it back up. They have the AR that they can go nuts with. I think the boy has got my do one thing at a time and never get in a hurry - and I said no kids for now. He said how is the boys know so much and I told him they have been where you are now and learned. I reminded him he saw how tater was at the range - he is always watching for something that isnt right and has no problem letting you know. All the club members know his quirks and back him when a guest may get riled when he tells them they are not following range rules. Only one time did I have to step in and that guy came back later and admitted he was breaking the rules but he was in a hurry. Him and tater are buds now LOL.
