I been looking at Nightforce and other scopes to put on the 300 prc. Ive been patient about this and no hurry. The FX1000 was one of my choices in the beginning but 800 bucks just seemed to be steep. I have the Black X1000 and it is a very good scope and I like Nikon to start with. Anyway, I was looking at some Nightforce and seen that Midway has the Nikon FX1000,, 200 bucks off. SOB and ticks me off in a way. If they can sell it for 599,, you know they still making a profit and understand a company cant sell at cost or 25 dollars above cost. They would have to close the doors. This is a FFP and 25 MOA for one revolution of the turret. 60 total so with the 20 moa rail,, there is plenty. True zero stop and not like the X1000 of lifting the turret crap.
For giggles, I looked on Optics plant and Amazon. All has them for 599 and the X1000 is 499. I would get another X1000 but want zero stop and FFP. I also find it very interesting that you get 25 MOA travel for only one revolution. Im not spending 1400 on a Nightforce when I can get this for 600 and don't care if I have saved up the money for the Force. I know what the X1000 does and it is on par with 900 dollar scopes but then again,, you can see how much mark up is in good optics. I will look some more but I don't see how I could go wrong with the FX1000. Just like all new stuff that comes out,,, High as heck and then cheaper after a few years. The X1000 wasn't even available when I first found out about it. I waited until dealers got them in stock and still waited for the price to come down. The price never came down and if it did,, it was only a few bucks or free shipping.
Chances of the FX1000 being ordered today, is about 99.9%. Not sure if this is a limited time sale for all,, or going to be the new normal price. Yea, it will suck to pay 600 today and next year,, it is 450 but used to that and nothing you can do. Athlon is a good scope and passed my tracking test, with flying colors. I do have something in the back of my mind though. We ran true numbers and the dial up was off by a lot, at 1000 yards. We don't know for a fact if it was the tracking at upper end adjustment,, or the data it self. We ran numbers for the 28 nosler , with the X1000 scope on it,,, and pretty much one shot hits,, out to 1000. So with out us setting down and shooting groups at 700, 8, 9, 1000 and moving the scope a click or so,,, I don't know for a fact if it was Athlon or the data / wind moving the little bullet. I see 600 bucks being a decent price for the FX1000 and yes,, wish it was 300 or what ever it really cost.
