I honestly know next to nothing about knife edges, and even less about sharpening them. I was initially trying to do a straight bevel that became the edge. on my first saw blank as i finished up roughing it out, there was ONE little spot near the blade where some of thazt "razor sharp" was left from the angle grinder cutting off? it ws close to what a tiny piece of "edge" would look like on a knife i am used to seeing, so i kinda lifted up the knife to try to "find" that spot and angle. I'm only 120 grit at best, but i strted sweeping around, actively trying to make SOMETHING resembling a real edge.
fter i was done, took my little blank down and was playing with sandpaper and a chunk of 2x4 to try to clean it up a little, and i fooled around with sandpaper up to 120, pretending i was sharpening it on the sandpaper. I wouldnt call it SHARP, but, i feel like i could, i dont know, eat a steak with it as a dinner knife? that SOMEthing for me, i never was any good at knife sharpening.
I have followed any NUMBER of how-to articles in mylife, none of them ever really got me sharpening stuff. from watching some youtibe videos, and now that i made my first rough edge? i THINK whats bveen going on is a couple things... for one, i think i have had knives that were a little hard, and i was scared to really put any pressure on them. When i once had a fine stone? my light pressure wasnt doing much. Saw a video where the guy explained that it would take HIM to go from dull to sharp with his high grit stone? 45 or more minutes of work... he started it with a much more aggressive grit to go from dull to startign to get sharp then finished with the high grit stone.
I'll have to get a couple cheap stones and play with them mext time i am at harbor freight...
