Just watched the news and there is a single case of Chronic Wasting Disease at a commercial elk breeding place about 25 miles from me. The last case around here was 30 yrs ago at a park that housed elk... From what I got only the one has tested positive so far but they are now testing outside the facility to see if it may have come from outside. I know they have some monster bulls walking around that give me the shakes.. literally too. As it stands right now no transportation of elk of deer in the state is allowed now. I did hear if the infected critter was brought in or born here - to me that will make the biggest statement. If it was bought and brought in someone may have fudged on the paperwork needed for a move. If it was born here the place needs to find out how it was introduced to the animal. So far we have stayed ahead of the liver flukes and CWD here, I hate to think we are slipping somewhere in the system.. And if it was a flagrant violation I think they should just let us hunters handle the problem... I may even know a person who might lead the group. I mean I need a stack of papers tall enough to give you writers cramp just signing them to take a bovine across the state line and there should be tighter laws on wildlife or I would think so. The state already stopped all transport of live wild hogs with out the permits and tests.... Now we get this, I play by the law I have a dim view of those who will screw it up for me by not playing fair...
Ok I will hush for now or until I get more real info other than the hey look at this news channels. Guess in the morning we will have the local ranger at coffee with us at the cafe. I just got off phone with one of the other hunters here and he had already called and offered the free breakfast for some Q&A on it. I may be warm but he is livid, his in-laws (hunting spot) is only about 5 miles from the elk.... Ok, need more coffee...
