If I tried any R23. Here you is Kirby and glad you asked. I know I tried it in my #1 6.5 creed but not in the #2. I don't even know if there is published DATA out there for this. I like flying by the seat of my pants and looked on the Alliant site. Rem 260 only and max was 44 grains or so, for a 140gr bullet. Ok,, lets start with 41 grains and the 143 ELD-M. First shot showed no HIGH PRESSURE at all. Ran them five back to back and horrible group at 110 yards.
I took the same five pieces of brass and bumped the charge up another 1.5 grains. Left all else the same,, but did turn the scope turret down 1.25 MOA, so the groups wouldn't run together. 1.5 is a big leap but keep in mind that I have put 2.8 years into the CREEDS and know them well,, plus im no fool when looking at or measuring a case for pressure signs. I also hear stuff too! The first round made a deeper bellow than most sharp cracks like mid burning power rates do. First thing I did was,, pull the bolt and see if it burnt the charge good. It did and no tiny pieces of powder, in the pipe.
42.5 grains is indeed a promising load FOR MY RIFLE. I know that I can shoot with some of the best and this is making me wonder if the Peterson Brass is one of my problems. I haven't tried any other brass in this rifle and seems like I get one or two fliers,, every damn time. The rifle has printed some crazy good groups and then a flier shows up to screw the group up. It is MY fault for not doing what I should,, TO TEST THIS Theory. Shoot the cases and mark the ones that seem to be fliers. Load the ones again that punched holes. This will eliminate,, what is in the back of my mind.
I also didn't get off my butt and send my Chrony off for repair,, until lunch time today. It is in the mail and don't have a damn clue of what is going on,, with this load of R23. I cant even guess about it. It might be 2500 or 2800 FPS. That is ok though and know 41 grains suck. I have a real good feeling that the FPS is no where around, R16 or R26,,,from just the sound of it. I will revisit this load and do 10. I will mark the cases that drifts off and set them aside. Im going to be one unhappy person if the brass is messing with my head. This damn rifle will shoot and know it will,, deep down. I say it is picky but starting to lean toward the brass,, after this.
