But it may look like I am.....
I am not a fan of AR's, yes,,, familiarity DOES often breed contempt, hauled them around and used then enough in the last 2/3rds of a military career to develop a serious dislike for the D.I. action self-filth-puking the gun full of crap.
Anyhow.
A few years ago I had a rough 2 year Skunk-run deer hunting and the freezer was emptying hard, and I had a thought.
"We have a small plot down over the state line in Northern Oklahoma,,,, they have Pig Problems down that'a'ways. I should go help that problem a little bit....."
As much as I love dad's Browning BAR .308W, she's scoped for longer reaches (4x12) and, only holds 5 rounds.
A risk I could get overrun....... rather dangerous feral swine are.......
Sigh........... so I built an LR308.
Well poo-ola,,,, since I abandoned photobucket over the C-Note Membership and can't upload direct here,,, have to hunt up photos I have elsewhere.
Here's one but it doesn't show the 18" stainless barrel and the JP Recoil Eliminator "tank-brake".

1.25-4X Leupold VX-Hog scope, I hate plastic furniture, especially on a heavy-nosed rifle. Boyd "Pepper" wood set.
Absolutely flawless sweet shooter, runs like a swiss watch. Way too much gas is managed by a rifle-length system and an adjustable JP gas block.
Rainier Match barrel, Cross machine Tool billet receiver set, Giselle 2-stage bang-switch.
Need to do a little more development fine tuning with the 168gr TSX Hog Reapers she launches, but she's workable now.
No matter how big the pig,,, she'll do, and does haul 25 rounds at a fill.
Then,,,,,,,,,,, it all went south.............
The 6-yr-old, Nic, was helping me haul stuff in from some 'yote-calling from the corner of the yard, and picked up Bane, and thinks she's really cool, but she is big and relatively heavy (weighs what my BAR does).
"Can you make one of these in My Size?"
:sigh: Here it goes.............
So yep,, I built him a straight-up forged-receivered carbine 16" Wylde-chambered pencil-barreled collapsible-stocked .223 (also free floated, with a different but very effective brake and a very good single-stage trigger (but not a Giselle)). Working on 62gr TSX hunting ammo for it currently, and it looks like I have no pictures on the 'net of it, yet.....,
It also runs like a swiss watch, neither rifle have missed a single beat (not counting gas block initial adjustment).
I still don't like AR's, but I am a practical man, not a total ideologue.
And yes,,, I HAVE also reconfigured one of my Loadmasters to make Nic "training" .223R ammo (Hornady 55gr FMJ), also violating my low opinion of the efficacy of making rifle ammo on a progressive.
Serious hunting ammo is still made The Old Fashioned Way, on the Crusher 2, one batch at a time.
