Why I am not interested in killing a deer anymore? You got to dig deep and answer that yourself. I have many guesses though and don't take this the wrong way. My dad is 81 and he loves to hunt but just cant get around like he could 5 to 10 years ago. He asked me a few weeks back if I wanted to go with him to where they are logging and he would kill a deer,, if I would go get it, gut and cut it up. Sure I will but then he changed his mind, when I called and said,, you want to get a deer today? Well son, it just don't seem right for me to shoot a deer and not be able to do the hard part. I will pass and it just don't feel right son. That sucked and wanted him to blast a big doe / spend a day together. I don't care to chase his deer down but I would have in a heart beat and had made my mind up for him to use my 7mag that he passed down to me. Last time we went, I thought that I had missed a deer and only found a hand of hair. 15 minutes later, more deer walked out and he fired his 30-06 and the deer hit the ground. He smiled and said to me,, that's how you shoot them boy. I went and got his deer and said, if that's how you shoot them, I can do without. His rifle was over 2 feet off to the right and shot the deer right thru the back hams. Destroyed them and broke her back. Not saying you would do that either and just a true story.
Seems like when we get older and killed piles of deer over the years, killing slowly tapers off. I know it has for me and lord only knows how many has fell and its not like a normal person that gets one or two a year or 75 in their lifetime. We was blessed with piles of land to hunt and special tags for crop damage. It was hundreds of deer and all was straight up and legal.
Ive had years that I was all pumped up over season coming in. Got my clothes ready, checked the zero of a few rifles and when season came,, I just lost interest in it. You know how it smells so good outside when leaves start to fall??? This year didn't even have that smell and turned me off for some reason. Ive been fishing and just couldn't get it the mood. So many simple things can just turn you off. Far as I'm concerned, its normal. I got out of trout fishing for about 8 years and stayed in the woods. Now I shoot paper and trout fish every chance I get. I cant tell you why bud,, you have to do that and I'm sure its a very good reason behind it.
