Well, here we are. 3 days before the Park hunt and I'm just now getting the .450 Bushmaster sighted in. It will kill a deer now from 0-150 yds., and I don't need to shoot more than that so I will leave it as is.
Here is my target from today. 100 yds from bench to target. Target black aiming point is 1/2" wide by 3/4" tall. Scope was set on 9x, and shot from front and rear sandbags. Shoot one - walk 100 yds to mark target. The only 3 shots that were shot back to back are #3, #4, and #5. Gun was never previously shot, and the barrel was cleaned prior to shooting.
#1 is clean cold first shot out of the gun with just bore sighting it.
#2 is 2nd shot after adjusting the scope. I felt pretty good about the scope.
#3, #4 and #5 shot from gun without any scope adjustment and I'm not getting that warm fuzzy feeling any more. after adjusting the scope UP 3 clicks and right 3 clicks from shot #2. (1/4" per click)
#6 is up 6 clicks, left 3 clicks
#7 is up ANOTHER 6 clicks from #6.
#8 is down 8 clicks from shot #7
#9 is left 5 clicks and I'm leaving it alone.
Optics are relatively clear for a $128.00 scope. Does the BDC reticle work? I have no idea. Will it be good enough for what I'm going to use it for? Yes. Would I recommend it to someone that is going to shoot 100-300 yds? Yes with a caveat of "Don't expect the click adjustment to work as indicated. Get it zero'd and plan on using at least a box of ammo. Then verify drop according the the BDC reticle, or just use the crosshairs and plan on using Kentucky windage/elevation."
Would I recommend it for a slug gun? No, it would cost too much in ammo to get it sighted in.
This is on a .450 Bushmaster AR that I put together. The scope rings are Burris Signature Rings with the plastic inserts. I torqued and used blue loctite on all the ring screws.
After the deer season is over I will do a box test of the scope and report back. From what I saw today I don't have high hopes.
