Ive shot a lot of differ bullets over my 23 years of loading. Some seem to foul a barrel faster than others with copper depending on how hard you push them and how smooth the bore is.I just cleaned the Weatherby 240 mag and I hot rod it.Its only seen Bergers once I figured out that they work best in weth mags to a point.27 shots and hardly NO COPPER FOULING at all.I clean my stuff every 15 to 40 rounds down the pipe but seems like Bergers create less copper fouling compared to about any other bullet that ive ever shot.I moly coated the Bergers for the 257 and been shooting none moly in the 240.I see no differ at all when it comes to copper fouling after 20 rounds in both. Both are Weatherby S2 rifles and lapped the 257 to 1000 grit clover compound but left the 240 be as it was. Both does the same for accuracy other than the 257 seems to build up more carbon fouling faster. This seems to be to reason since it burns 20 more grains of powder compared to the 240.
Anyway,im liking BERGERS more and more for accuracy and less copper fouling as time passes.Berger says,,,SHOOT BETTER,SHOOT BERGERS. I say SHOOT BETTER,SHOOT BERGERS and clean less.
Ive tried Barnes with the shank groves that claims to reduced fouling and create more FPS but I disagree.Barnes TTSX or TSX is one hell of a bullet but I think Berger blows them away for accuracy if the rifle likes them and don't foul the barrel up as fast.Nosler Accubond is another good one along with the Horn interbond but haven't played with them much at all.
Most rifles hate these bullets but Weth mags and other long throats thrive on them from what Ive seen so far.
