Ive been playing today and the 28 Nosler is good to go. 7-08 was next and wasn't so thrilled about it but does 1 inch at 80 yards and plenty good for in the woods. Last year, it was bug holes and need to clean it. 30-06 was next and it was 2 high and 1 to the right and expect this because it has set for over a year. I was going to move the scope but a moth landed on the target and know it needs the dust blown out the barrel. I pulled down on the moth and it was gone by the time I got back in the scope. Cant stay in the scope on this baby and its a mod 700 ADL with a plastic butt plate. Case crammed full of R22 and a 180 TTSX. Yea, it hurts to look at on the bench,, much less shoot.
Hell yea and moth dust on the paper. Didn't bring blood or guts but hit it's wing or something. GOOD enough. This moth wasn't your 1/2 inch one and looked like 1.5 x 1.5 thru the scope. Anywho, I hit it and plenty good for killing a deer. Not sure why I do this once a year, because I don't even hunt much anymore. Guess it makes me feel good to pretend that I'm going to. I run five or more rifles every year to see if they are still on zero,, but don't even use them or might go once or twice to get a meal once in a blue moon.
The ole 7mm mag will be next and just like to shoot it four or so times a year. She has earned her respect from me and killed a dump truck load of deer with it. I just think its good to shoot rifles and clean them once a year. I have seen rust or pitting in some of my barrels when setting for 12 to 36 months. That's not good and they need to be shot and cleaned,, from time to time.
Pretty impressed with my 30-06 and its in the kill zone,, no matter how long it sets idle. I hated the 30-06 , 270 for years because everyone has them. I'm still not a 270 fan but the 30-06 with the correct load is amazing for hunting. 58 to 220 grain bullet and you can make all fly good. I prefer 165 to 200 and mainly the 180 for mine and a stiff load of R22. The Barnes TTSX 180 is forgiving on pressure and I fill that sucker up with R22. I seat the bullet as the OLD TSX by books and let it roll. IIRC, I could feel powder crunching when seating the bullets about three years ago and my rifle loves it.
