I know SevenFan has played a tad with it but has anyone else. I have finally trashed my 6.5 Nosler Creedmoor brass to the point that I'm going to just put all in the scrap bucket. Got up to 30 to 38 times out of it and the end has come. I called Sportsman Warehouse and they put 50 pieces of Norma and Nosler brass, along with a jug of R16 under the counter for me. They had two jugs of the 16 and better get both if the one is still on the shelve tomorrow. I got to get things right really fast and my luck,, they will have things tomorrow that I cant find most of the time, and cost me piles. I'm not like a woman going shopping but I can get off track at times. I walk in and out, get what I need and not what I want.
The boy put my stuff up but said,, We just got a big load of Aliant powder in. SOB and this isn't a good time for me. 15, 16, 25, 26 and 33. I need 25 and damn sure want 26 and 33 in about 4 pounds of the same lot. Want, want but will refrain myself and just don't have 400 to blow on powder right now. Maybe next time and found info on R16, so I will get both jugs. Info means nothing but wasn't sure about the burn rate. This is what I found.
Temp extremes, even pressures, Burn rate about like 4350, constant FPS, higher FPS with lower pressure and great for 6.5 target loads and Med size cases with lot to lot consistency. R17 is a crazy good powder for light bullets in the Creed from my playing and gives up to 200 FPS better than a few other hand full of powders that I tested. Most if not all powders give me 2600 to 2700 fps in my 20 inch barrel, but R17 is right at 2980 to 2995 at max charge and shoots better than good. Another learning curve and no telling what it would do in a 22 to 26 inch pipe. I know for a fact that many powders will shoot bug holes in my barrel but none has came close to 3000 FPS and ACCURACY.
I love to break the rules and start out low, but R17 got me some stupid accurate rounds with the 120 SMK. IMR 7828 is another that will yield high FPS in some rounds if it will burn all in the tube. Books say a lot but visions of 2850 to 2900 FPS is out of my mind for a 140 or 143 bullet in my 20 inch barrel. Its no way possible it would ever happen. I guess you could but I trip to the ER would be needed and never shoot again.
Since I floated the barrel, R17 might be it for the 140 to 143 but haven't tried. I know it sucked before and only have 1/4 pound , so I'm not even going to try. Still haven't made up my mind to get the Nosler brass or Norma,, this time. Norma is 10 bucks cheaper but not sure about it. Some claim Norma makes Weatherby mag brass but I can say,, ive had both head stamps and the Weatherby head stamp done better than a new box of Norma. Ive dic#ed around and pushing my self to the limits on a 1000 yard load. The 28 nosler is another that I haven't got down pat and need brass for it or might just buy another box of factory rounds to shoot,, and that's not me. What good is 20 rounds and they do indeed shoot good. I'm getting all jacked up over nothing and let the damn cards play their self.
