My family knows that logging doesn't bother deer. It only makes them a better place to live , in the long run and within two months of cutting on 400 acres, they adapt and know,, they are safe.
My brothers and I cut two loads of fire wood for me today. There was two hunters on the property when we went in this morning, headed to the landing. They waved and guess they thought we was hunting also. We got two loads of wood in under 1 hour and my brother had it laid out for me. ( cut it into 18" sticks and back the trucks right up to it )
We seen over 7 deer going in (all Doe) and some pretty bucks going out. 6 , 10 ,13 points and one SOB that was moving like a damn rocket was hooked to his butt. The hunters set their blinds up in the wrong place and didn't care for us getting firewood on the opening day of SmokePole. Poor fellows will learn in time that cutting wood, doesn't scare the deer and I could have killed two with my 9mm pistol, slick as a ribbon. Hell, they came to us when Charlie fired up the skidder , to drag a dead tree to the landing. They been cutting wood there for two years and we laugh our butts off. The hunters should have set up,,, 80 yards from us and both would have killed a nice little buck or maybe the MONSTER we seen.
I know where my happy A$$ will be in a few weeks and hope we pissed them off. I can set in the truck and shoot out to 600 yards easy,, and will park within 125 FEET of the landing. I will spend a few days there in rifle season, if not everyday. I want that big bastard that hangs out about 200 yards away from the landing. My oldest brother said, he lays on the hill, every day and gets up about 8:30am,, and starts making his rounds. Carol loads the wood and see's more than anyone. He sets 16 feet in the air , every day for 5 hours ,, and watches the clear cuts. He names the deer .
You would think I would kill a monster or three every year , having access to land,,, but that's far from the truth. Just got to see them bastards first,,, and then I can do my part on trigger work. Sounds easy, but far from it. I can hit a damn beer can at 400 yards but its different in the real world , and got to get a shot first.
