I acquired a Shepherd Scope in a trade deal a while back. I had seen them in the past and read mixed reviews about them online, the concept behind them seems fairly straightforward and logical. There is scant information to be found about them on the web, at least that I have discovered. They advertise it as having a reticle ranging system and one-shot zero that is a pretty neat system if it works.
I can tell you that there is absolutely nothing on the outside of the scope anywhere to identify which model of Shepherd it is. Their different models supposedly fit different calibers (generally speaking) in terms of bullet drop compensation. I figured since I had it laying around gathering dust, I would mount it on a Rem 700 .243 and see what happens. I began researching it a few days ago in order to see if it was supposed to work for that cartridge and could not for the life of me find any information about how to tell which model it was. I knew it was a 6-18x40, but there are 4 models of them that they made/make, all with different intended purposes.
So, I gave the company a call this morning and the gentleman on the phone was fairly helpful in identifying which one I have. As it turns out, if you look at the bottom of the reticle, there is a tiny letter or number. Mine was a "2" which indicated that I have a V2 model. That reticle won't line up well with the 243 so while on the phone he listed out a few that it will. It seems that it will work for a 280 Rem, which is on my to do list to build here soon anyway, so maybe I'll give this thing a shot when i get there. Just wanted to throw the info out here in case anyone else ends up with one of these and can't figure out which reticle you've got since the info seems pretty scarce.
