My brother got a 308 Mossberg a month ago. It drove him nuts and the phone ringing everyday done the same to me. He said it was very pretty, fluted barrel and good trigger, but was lucky to put 4 shots in a fifty cent piece at 50 yards. After 3 different scopes and 250 hand loads, he took it back to the gun shop. They called Mossberg and they said it sounded like a bolt problem and he told them, he wanted his money back.
They took the rifle back and he got a Ruger American. Lord help me, phone ringing off the hook again and now telling me 3 shots can be coved with a dime at 50 yards but should burn a tiny hole. He is no dummy but burnt his butt up after seeing the brass he was using. PMC and Fed mixed. I set down and showed him how to set the dies for his new rifle and made him get new brass. Well, I don't know about all this fire forming, neck sizing, annealing, bullet jump that you are showing me and never done that crazy stuff before,,, was his reply.
I was starting to get hot and told him, if you want the damn thing to shoot good,, keep the mouth shut,,, ears and eyes open. His dime load, told me that it had potential and just needs good brass and some tweaking. Guess what? The new Norma brass, Fed 210m, 150 flat base horn sp and 45.6 of IMR 4895,,,, made it do less than a dime at 100 yards and 5 shots today.
He called and said,,, them damn people ive been talking to don't know nothing and thanks for helping me. Mercy dear and told him that Mossberg was junk from day one and forget about H380 and boat tail bullets for 50 to 150 yard,,, crazy accuracy. SOB, if he didn't ask me,,,, you think the group can get a tad better? I said yea,,, shoot it at 20 yards .
