Ok, I stepped into one of these and know nothing of them. Went to a family funeral over the weekend, didn't really know this one so we only stayed for the funeral/dinner and came home. Got a phone call and the man's son ask if I would take his dad's old "Army" gun because no one there wanted it. Well never turned a firearm down yet and wasn't going to let this be first one.... So I ask all the pertinent questions for my mind anyway... What is it, do you know the caliber and how much time before I need to come get it. He didn't know anything about it but his dad kept it in the closet loaded. "In a Closet loaded" Ok in LA too - my mind went all over the place, from a rusted unusable tomato stake to hidden gem, then to should I turn it down now...
So he just called me back. He took it to local gunshop for my answers, he didn't know anything about it until then. Anyway its a Swiss K31 in really nice shape according to the guy at the shop. 7.5 x 55mm ammo which may be iffy to find easily but the gunshop has 5 boxes they will sell cheap (always a worrying thing to me).
So now I own it and the 5 boxes of ammo (cost me $8 a box for the 3 boxes of mil surp and $15 for 2 boxes of old Rem stuff) and it will be delivered to me.... Joyce (we) will be having guests for Christmas and they are bringing it down. Joy! Joy! Happy! Happy!!!!!!!!!!! on the guests... but I am getting new free rifle out of it so I can shush and let it be. I think its the same troupe that came last year, her daughter and family with the bonus of hubby this year.
Joyce told me he has never been trout fishing and I can repay him that way, well I'm hooked now she said it in front of the kid and he was all hopped up.
Anyone had one? ever heard of one? messed with one? I have seen a few Schmidt-Rubin's at the pawn shops but never thought about them so I'm new to this one.
