Me and the boy went turkey hunting this morning up at the lease, his first time to hunt there. I took the Rem700 in 222 and he used one of the 22 Hornets. Well we both got a bird, I let him have first whack at them. From about 60yds he got a jake and the birds took off, I wasn't going to try a running shot on a turkey so we sat there waiting to see where they were stopping. As we sat there the land owner drove in and came over to the blind, not to worry its big enough for a crown LOL. Anyway while we talked the birds came out about 120yds down the fence. Tater popped off and goes "papa shoot one in the head" my wise rear end didn't think just said "sure ok". I saw a jake who was acting as lookout with his head high and slowly looking around. Got settled in and pulled the trigger and all heck broke loose. The others are long gone when it stops flopping.
The landowner is a very nice older woman (in her 70s) and she ask if I would shoot her a bird too. So while tater ran down and got the bird she invited us to lunch. I told her we may need a rain check because I was under orders to make sure he made his schooling this afternoon. She smiled and just sad next time. We sat there for about an hr longer and it came time to head in, so what does tater do? He gives her his bird, because she needs one and he can come back again. So after the hug and kiss we are all headed to the trucks. I get him here just in time for a shower and Joyce to run him over, she wanted to go to town anyway.... So I cleaned mine and froze his head as proof of the incident. Got a picture as well to prove Pickles point on why he likes the 22 over the Hornets he has had stated in the past. I have had a dud in one also, another just didn't advertise thing....
I honestly was aiming for the eye so I did miss the mark but we are eating him anyway LOL...
stupid cell phone camera, I guess me and any camera just like to fight.
