Just like it says both the girl and I both grew up today some today. She is still going to hunt but she doesn't want to hunt deer anymore this year. Rabbits and squirrels are ok. Took me by surprise and I had no quick answers for why it didn't just die. I guess I'm just used to the fact they die at their own rate, it was a good shot but it wasn't through when we got to it. She wouldnt just let me clean it so it could be done quickly and then we could had it out of the way and we could talk. She did help as best she could and by the time we got him hung in the cooler she was ok with killing him. We let the others come in while we cleaned up the dressing table and ourselves.
Then we talked about the fact that even I have moments that I feel for the animal I just killed but, I see it as meat or food for someone. I told her to talk to both mom and aunt K about killing their first deer, J's was last year so it will still be fresh on her mind, they both will get a good cry out of the way. K's first kill took care of any monster she may be after, 18 point 207lbs dressed. He was massive and yes he is on her wall. And yes she cried afterward, but not because she killed it, but because it may have a mate.... We live in the Bambi movie dream world to much.
Anyway Laynie will be fine and she has a nice smallish set of antlers we will worry about later. As far as her hitting tater, he had it coming in a way. He was taking a picture when he popped off and told her it had its eye on her.. wrong thing and the wrong time. I think she has a whole lot of mom in her, God help the man she chooses.
As for the weight, I hit it dead on, 124lbs hanging after dressing. I should have weighed it after we got the skin and head off. Oh well, the boys are messing with Tom and the women are all out on the swing having coffee and talking.
