30mm tube verses 1" plus bell size. All knows im a rifle, small group person and have a piles of 1" tube scopes. Some has bells from 40 to 50 mm and I try to get the bell and body of the scope almost to the barrel when selecting base's and rings. Ive always been like this because my mentor said so.
Most of my bells are within a hair off the barrel and no more than 1/4" IF THAT.
I have gotten screwed when light gets low many times on something to shoot but by the last minutes of legal shooting,,, but couldn't. I could not see the fine hairs in the 1" scope. I bought a nice Leup 30 mm scope to put on my 240 mag last year for a little of nothing. I have yet to put it on because the bolt handle will not clear unless I get a high ring and it shoots so good ,,,, I really don't want to change it.
IM thinking leave it be and not take it where low light will be an issue , but wondering what I should put it on and how much differ it makes being 1/4 or more above center of bore. Most if not all of mine is 1 9/16 or 1 1/2 "
I messed up when selecting scopes from day one. I bought all with fine cross hairs for my idea of long range in mind. 600 yards or less mainly but thinking very hard about using this scope on my 257 mag instead of the 240. Why, I believe the 240 has no need to be shot in low light conditions to start with. Great cal but a super hot 243 has no place in low light ,,, to me. Maybe not the 257, far as that goes but know darn well what it does ,,, with a 110 AB. Bang flop. Yea the hairs wasn't a picnic to see in it either but better than the Burris on my 240.
Might change out some things and just wondering what yall think about 30MM and 1 3/4 inch above center of bore.
