I and my old time fishing buddy hit the river at daylight this morning and he smoked me. We fished very hard for muskies, with out any luck for hours. We started the carp fish and within 20 minutes,he got a 14 or so pound one. Things went calm for about an hour so we started musky fishing again and that didn't work so we went back up river and started on the carp again.
Soon as we anchored down,a good 40 or so pound musky swam by the boat within 3 feet of us. We started throwing stuff in front of it with no luck and he caught a 24 pound carp 5 minutes later. 11 hours of hard fishing produced one tiny small mouth for me and he caught two nice carp and two little small mouths.
This is the first time that ive played with the nice bait caster set up a bought many months ago. The first few cast was about 20 yards and one when nuts. It took five minutes to get my screw up fixed. I set the brakes differ and then set the other adjustment to where the weight of the lure, barley fell when pushing the button. HELL YEA and within 45 more minutes I was slinging that bitch out to an easy 45 to 60 yards. I had know idea that they would cast that far and its the best money ive spent for a long time. Hell, the lures wasn't real heavy either and got 50lb spider wire on that baby. I love it.
I mastered the casting part pretty fast, now I need to figure out what the muskies like because they surely didn't like my big spinners or shad/minnow raps or Robin's mixture of lures. We had a blast and he caught the carp on oatmeal with garlic powder put in it. I used it to and corn, but it wasn't my lucky day.
