I've gone from using Hoppes #9 to trying a BUNCH of different stuff. A few years ago I settled on using Hoppes Elite liquid for Carbon, and Montana Extreme Copper Killer (used to be Montana Extreme BMG) for copper. Forget about using brass brushes or brass jags. They'd leave blue in the barrel. I switched to nylon brushes and nickel plated jags.
Mark (elkhunter77) was saying how well Wipe-Out with acellerator worked, so I ordered some the last time I placed an order at Brownells. I used it on a Win Model 70 30-06 that a buddy wanted me to mount a scope on and get it zero'd. It was shot a little, then put in a safe for the past 20 years. I thought he cleaned it when he bought it, but nope.....
I thought it would be a good test for the Wipe-Out. I ran a dry patch down the bore and it came out pretty dirty. I used the acellerator on a patch, making 2 passes thru the bore. Then I sprayed the Wipe-Out in the bore, set the gun muzzle down on a few cleaning patches and walked away. The instructions say leave it sit for 24 hr. I couldn't ....
About 6 hrs later I looked at it. The patches that it was sitting on were a deep blue color. I ran a few patches down the bore and it seemed clean. I brushed it, and then ran Hoppes Elite down it. Let it sit and dry patched. Virtually no dirt. Then I patched a few times with Montana Extreme bore cleaner, letting it sit for 15 min. before running any more patches down the barrel.
The patches came out with a light tint of blue on them, nothing objectionable. So, I give the Wipe-Out a two thumbs up providing you have the time to let the gun sit.
