Had a friend send me a couple of boxes of older 50gr Hornady V-max moly coated bullets last week. He said he couldn't get them to work in his 223 and just didn't want to mess with them anymore. I aint going to look any gift horse in the mouth. So I was cleaning up around the reloading bench and found a 50 round box of 222 brass primed and ready. I thought what the hey I will try this and see. Dug and found the remainder of a 50 box of 222 with 55gr Sierra bullets with 23.0gr IMR 4064 that are probably 15 yrs old. So I reloaded 15 of the Moly coated bullets with same load and went to range yesterday. First five on target are the 55gr Sierra's as a base line, the rest are the 50gr V-maxes. Info is on target. I did clean the snot out of barrel after shooting the first group of five. Then parked my happy hinny on bench and shot the next 5 at the bull and was happy so I shot at the corner markers with five more - barrel felt warm so I put it over to cool and played with others. Never got back to the 222 so I pulled target to save and came in when it started to warm up. I like this rifle, like Pickle said it can shoot itself pretty much. I bought this one new in 79 and it still wears the same trigger it came with, I have lightened it a bit and keep it clean. I have never had a problem with it. I cant say there is not a problem with the triggers on the 700s but mine has not had a problem. Some of my other 700s have aftermarket triggers on them, either as bought or was in a stage of trying to be better than others --- may help some but I still shot the same after the trigger change on most of them. I believe a good clean trigger is the best way to go but if you want an aftermarket job get one, don't let me guide you. I make mistakes like most everyone else so do not follow my lead without doing research on your own... any way here is the target.
