Ok, first off there will be no picture of the animal I had to kill today. Was a large dog chasing the cattle. I surprised myself this time. I have not shot it in a few months much less any rifle at distance. We go to the clubs range which has a 300yd lane. Today we saw the dog chasing the cows and I told Ty to go fetch me a long range toy. Well he came back with the 264RLb and 2 cartridges.... really boy just 2. I might have been comfortable with the Lazzeroni but will never know now LOL. Anyway the shot was from the back of the shop across a dip in the pasture with no trees to interfere. TY ranged it with the laser and said it was 430 yds to the dog. So I pulled the Kentucky windage out of the hat and kept telling myself to watch the breathing and just do it. It was running left to right when I pulled the trigger and he just flopped over. I was aiming about 2ft in front of him and figured on a body hit maybe. We went to check on it and I smacked it thru both shoulders and the thing didn't have a collar so now I will wait to see if anyone comes looking. Ty did manage to video it chasing the cows but not the kill (thankfully), we drug it to the gully and pushed it off in with other long past offenders.
So as it stands now #8 has killed from 80yds to the 430yds today. I felt kind of big headed for a while, the boys helped with that when they said "well somebody don't have a dog anymore". That kind of bit a tad but I have signs that say we have poison out, may be lead poison but it works just a well and more humanely. I try to be fair with the neighbors but I do have my limits. There is a huge great dane that we see from time to time but it does not chase the cattle it just wonders around. I have found a little trash at the lake that is not ours so I posted a sign that says if you want to fish ask or if I catch you I will call the sheriff. I am not super happy when people do come to ask but At least I know they are there and whose trash it is if they leave any.
