Ok, I guess Santa felt bad for me and thought I didn't have enough to do, Daughter got me one for Christmas. It's not a plain mil version, this one has been "smithed", very nice walnut stock, adjustable trigger, drilled for scope mounts. but it is missing its rear sight. She got it from the dad of who she is dating and he wanted the rear sight so as it looks now I cant shoot the dern thing. and I only have 4 rounds left from the box I got from Vers way back. I haven't done anything other than pull stock to check if it was bedded, with the way it looks I was wondering. Nope not bedded but it is fit very well. Called the old owner and got some details but he is starting to get dementia and things are sketchy, but what I got is, barrel was bought from Brownells in the 60s when he had it built at a long gone local gunshop. It fits me pretty darn close and that is a plus on its own... my long arms are hard to get for off the shelf. He said it has not been out of the safe in over 25yrs as he sold his other Jap rifle with all the goods to go with it (brass and dies), he told me it was a good shooter but not a bench rest rifle--- so with his mind going that leaves a huge gap in my book. will try to get picture up when I find the camera. From looking at the yellowish tint it is an old finish. I am not much on trying to find 6.5 brass or rounds but I do have a 6.5x257 Rob reamer so I'm sure it will end up re-chambered at some point. After I get some pictures it will most likely hit a safe and get to know its other guests for a while. Not sure what mounts were on it at one time but a quick search says I may be in for a hunt just to find a pair. Have an ancient steel Weaver I was thinking would be period correct for it but who knows, if it shoots well I may give it an upgrade or two, if that is possible now days.
UPDATE: pictures
Did I tell you guys I hate this flippen camera??? We haven't had it long but its got to many buttons for me to screw stuff up with... I managed these before it said batteries were to low and I tossed a fit. I mean its Christmas and we didn't get any batteries. well enough of my ranting...
