This summer has been hard on my calipers... Ok the Starrett's are still put away but the ones from RCBS and Frankfort Armory have went haywire on me. It started with the way old plastic RCBS dial calipers not reading even close to right.. then the FA model got to where it wont turn off -- you pull the battery or it will drain it. So dig out the RCBS older digtials and they lost the ability to stay on - will shut off in a few seconds.. So I went off my usual path and ordered a set from Hornady. Came today and while I cant say for sure the RCBS, FA and now the Hornady digitals all look exactly alike other than their colors.. Maybe same Chinese maker, with a warranty attached to the better priced ones. I have already called RCBS - both the old and new replacements are in the mail or so the girl said.. Yes they still have the dial calipers - I cant find them online or in their catalog but she told me she would send me a set of the newer ones.. FA jobs, havent called them, dont expect them to do much, they are 4 yrs old LOL.. and we use them for other things than reloading.. So now with the replacements coming we are back in business LOL.. Will leave the dial one hanging at the work bench, after all the time I have in teaching the boys how to read them no sense in not using them.. and being plastic when they die this time we will give them a proper burial.. When the new ones get here will get out the mic test pins and see how far they are from each other.. I got the surprise when I tested the FAs against the Starrett's - only a .0002 difference in reading after I got used to them, close enough for my work..
