Well, me and the boys got stuck here prepping some veggies for canning while the Aunt ran to town to get a few more supplies.... About an hour later I get a call to come pick her up and bring a sheet of plastic. Not sure what she has done but we drop everything and get in gear.. Get to where she says she is and nothing but blue and red lights.... OK I was officially worried. All for not, seems she filled her first doe tag of the year... And she was more mad about that than the damage to her car. The laws have changed a little so the first thing the deputy did was call the local ranger who had to check the deer in. It seems just because she hit it with her car it still needs to be checked just like if it was taken with a weapon... Not a real big thing, she has a lifetime license which exempts he from buying a deer tag but she is supposed to check in all deer taken. I could see she was not happy but she went with it and kept quiet - at least until we got her and her deer loaded and headed home.
For anyone who owns a Hyundai Santa Fe - do not use it for deer hunting... she swears she was doing 45 mph when the doe jumped in front of her.. From my non insurance adjusting knowledge it looks totaled.. bumper was back to the cross member and radiator was on the engine.. She is waiting on her insurance company to get back with her now so she can see about a rental until they get hers fixed (or replaced). All I know for sure is we have a 74lb carcass hanging in the cooler waiting for it to bleed out a little more before the real cutting begins.. One shoulder is pretty much puppy chow.. bruised beyond trying get cleaned up in my view but she may see it differently. I see some qts of stroganoff base canned real soon..
But once again she started our season early, I wish I could say this is a first but no way.. but this is her worst as far as vehicle damage.. her first when she moved up here was a doe that committed suicide and ran into the side of her truck... caved the bed in but the truck was ugly anyway so it just looked more like a farm truck LOL. I was messing with her on the way in and told her he only has 3 more doe tags she can fill and the rental place might get hot if she uses one of theirs on her next one... She didnt see the humor and the boys were afraid to say much, they knew she got mad.
