I need to get a flash hole tool but have mixed feelings about differ brands. Most good ones use a stop and some doesn't. To get free shipping on some brass I need,, I will get one of them too! RCBS and some others have stopping pilots that you buy for 4.99 a whack and screw that noise. Why would a person just start turning away on the inside of a flash hole without a stop, I don't know. Seems like it would remove to much brass if you wasn't careful and weaken the primer pocket. I understand that you are only removing slight burrs left by the factory and only needs to be done once.
Since I have the RCBS case prep center, a cutter rod with a universal cal pilot and adjustable stop that would thread into the station would be really cool. I just cant seem to find one or better yet,, the web sites doesn't tell me if the unit can be un screwed from the manual handle. Im sure some do and know they do but not buying 80 bucks of plilots / stops for a 28 buck tool. That is freaking crazy. I seen a Hornady all propose and it is hand turned / don't think it can be put in a prep center. Maybe it can and this is why im asking. It sucks to spend 30 bucks or 16 far as that goes and not get what a person wants. Im pretty sure most like Lyman, RCBS and maybe Redding can be taken apart and used in a prep center. I want a settable zero stop though.
Im I over thinking this? Im not buying high dollar brass to learn the hard way and need some thoughts about this one. How do you even know how to set the stop? Im guessing you just barely clean up the burrs and maybe a stop isn't even necessary. Id say it is,, in a prep center more than doing by hand. Don't know.
