I don't get wrapped up in the whole Winchester HP versus XTP debate. I know that the silver tip has failed to expand on at least a half dozen cases that I am familiar with. People spend way too much time deciding what bullet, caliber, load, length of barrel etc ad nauseam and not near enough time shooting, drawing their weapon and finding/moving/cover. If that gun is in your holster, under your shirt, and the cookie monster, who happens to be 15 feet from you, draws a knife or just charges you, your ass is coming home in the cargo section with a blue tag on the toe.
I carry Federal Hydra Shoes, mainly because that is what the departments issue in most cases. It is the bullet most others are compared to. Regardless of bullet, you shoot baddie at top of his heart, the infamous triangle, he had best have his affairs in order. He will have seconds to write his will, regardless of the caliber you put there. I have seen a 22 hit there and it was over in 15 seconds, the last 10 he was on the ground. Practice your draw, moving backwards to cover distance away from an aggressor, and putting multiple shots in the 10 ring. That is why I like my 9mm over the 45 acp. I can place 3 or 4 hits in the time it takes you to fire one, but I train constantly.
Best training? Not the Tueller drill, although it is a good one, but train in situational awareness. Know your surroundings and how to escape from any situation without having to fire a shot at anyone. That drill will save your life faster than any load or hollow point argument ever will. Nuff said and sorry if I offend anyone by this .
