We typically fish from now until late spring most always targeting rainbow trout and kokanee (when they're around). Most of our catch gets run through the smoker and shared with many others who either can't get out or don't fish. For some I'll fillet and provide fresh as that's what they like.
With several other things on my plate fishing took a back seat since late 2016, but am now back it with the same fervor as before. Started this season off with a trip 2 weeks ago on a solo trip with my yellow lab where I put a limit in the cooler in an hour and then decided to just enjoy a boat ride. My wife arrived that evening and we went out the next morning, and even though we didn't put a limit in the cooler we did keep 7 chunky rainbow.
Took a fishing buddy with me Wednesday last week and we limited in 2 hours plus me catching a real nice native rainbow that was an easy 22" and 3.5 - 4lbs. The lake we fish requires all native trout must be released. Hard to catch such a nice rainbow only to set it free.
We didn't have any commitments this past weekend so asked my wife if she wanted to go fishing Saturday and responded with an enthusiastic yes, for that matter she said, let's go up Friday after work so we can get an early start Saturday. Deal!
Now my wife love's to fish and she has this uncanny knack for besting me most every time we're out. She'll either catch more than I do, catch the first, or catch the biggest. Saturday was no different.
Although I hooked up first, got it to the boat for her to net, it spit the hook just as she was reaching over the gunwale. Re-rig and back to trolling only to have her hookup and land the first of the outing, a 17 1/2" carryover (will explain that term later).
I follow that with an almost identical fish but 1/4" shorter.
