this morning was our first morning of rifle season so we went to the lease to save here for next week. Nice brisk morning, 41* and a 25mph wind with some serious gusts. We got to the lease and we had an unauthorized man on the lease, he had a permission slip supposedly signed by the landowner. I didnt say much until after the ranger got there and questioned him and went on about just getting the slip last week. Then I sank his boat and told the ranger we have had total lease on the property for 3 yrs and the man did not have our permission. So the ranger called the landowner and when she got there he went to jail. She told the ranger she had talked to the man and had told him she had it leased out and he had to get their permission. I wasn't pushing the issue then he got mouthy with the ranger -- young White hunter, older Native American ranger..... it went ugly real fast. He has a court date next Tuesday to see how the judge will handle things.
We hunted until noon with 2 deer taken 1 each. K's son got his doe as soon as they got settled. The rest of us either didn't see anything or have any kind of shots, the wind kept them in the brush pretty much. We hit the Casino for lunch and as we are eating all I hear is can we play too from the kids. Well everyone knows no one under 18 can play. So what do I do I let them talk me into doing one machine one time and see what happens.... I let them pick and they had to pick a promotional machine.... IE if it comes up whatever fruit you get a case of that fruit. Well we won a case of pineapples, and we just bought 4 on sale Thursday....
We go hog hunting and its only slightly better, but Ty hoginated one --- Guys at 75yds the Baconator will darn near field dress one if hit a bit far back in the ribs. Thru and thru pulling out the lungs and most everything behind them. Ok the entrails got to stay but there will be no liver out of it, it was splattered all over behind where it stood. Hit a rib on the incoming side and blew a tennis ball sized hole as it exited. Didn't matter to Ty then tater got a baking pig with the AR while we were working it over. I guess it came to see what the noise was and tater ask if he could shoot it, I didn't think to look and see what was up. He was already on the pig just waiting on an OK, Bang - smacked him at the head/neck joint... We are thinking about roasted pig for T-day now. Haven't done a whole pig in a long time so it may be fun. I was joking about using pineapple juice to baste him with --- not a joke anymore... How many pineapples do we need to juice papa?
So for the year now we have 2 hogs and a pig, 4 doe and 1 buck (6pt) but things are looking good at both places. The granddaughter that was so into getting to hunt this year missed today over ready for this one..... The whole house has the flu.... When I called about the turkey injection sauce I found out so I ask why no one had said anything, we didn't want to hear I told you so over turning the shot down. Tomorrow between church services I am headed to the rifle range to re-sight the 264RLB --- the scope has a problem -- its not as clear as it was 3 weeks ago. I swapped it for a spare Leo and will be sending the Bush in for service or replacement. I usually hunt with the scope set to the middle of power adjustment, today I had to turn it full up and still had a fuzz to it, turned down to 4 was worse, so it came off and the Leo is on, if I like the reticle it may stay. Big thing about the Leo is I have no lens covers for it. Oh, well it will be what it will be for now anyways.
