John, I love my 22Hornets always have. I did have trouble out of a 17 Hornet on a Savage Model 25. Sent it back twice. Second time after calling and pretty much stating that is they couldn't make it work I would be one of their biggest non supporters ever. Not that it ment much to them I'm sure but I felt better. I own more than a couple of Savages and this was the only bum in the bunch. Anyway they kept it 3 months and called said it was ready to be shipped and they needed FLL address and all the other stuff. Ask charge for repairs -- no charge was her answer, "we found a problem with the barrel", well DUH, I had been complaining about that for almost a year. Got it back and looked it over - it has a new barrel ( I put a witness mark on first one) as well as a new bolt. Now I am back to being Savage fan. shoots great little groups at 150yds and has put meat in freezer since its return. I heard about Pickle's troubles, all I can say Is after the trip with the 17 anything could happen from parts to assembly in any manufacturers place. Most are great out of the box but I'm sure there have been more than a few POS's too. I had a Rem 700 in 308 that came with a problem (headspace was way off) sent it back with notes on what it was doing - got it back in a few weeks and note saying somewhere along the way they missed the problem and had made it right and if I had any other problems let them know. All is well now. Now about the 22LR ammo, as scarce as is got I am happy to find it anywhere. I did screw myself on brands though. Most all of my 22s rifle and handgun have been tunes for Fed 36gr Blue box stuff. Have several semi autos that flat out will not run anything else. I can run anything thru the bolt guns but even they start to baulk after a few rounds. I'm sure some of it is ammo itself but tuning the guns to one brand was not smart on my part, but I wasn't expecting 22Lr to become nonexistent either.
