I guess you gotta take care of your best friend and have nothing better to do this weekend because im on call. He just brought me 100 357 cases and the data that his dad uses for it and they shoot damn good because I sited it in for him. 8grns of Unique under a 158 XTP. 60 7mm mag cases and 80 7-08 cases.
NEVER RELOAD FOR A FRIEND is my motto but im the one that worked the loads up for his 7mag and 7-08 so I know its ok to do so and got to play some first because he brought me a new jug of H4831ssc and IMR 4895. FOR THE NEWBIES,always remember that a differ lot of powder is never the same from the last and you don't just use the data that worked great a year or five years ago. JUST A REMINDER and not preaching. Something else,my dies was set for HIS rifle a few years ago and it WILL NOT WORK FOR HIS CHAMBER NOW and ive got to reset it for his rifle. I HAVE HIS RIFLES IN HAND TO MAKE DAMN SURE IT RIGHT because guessing is a ticking time bomb or a waisted day of loading rounds that will not fit correct.
ALL CASES was shot in his rifle only and pistol. The pistol doesn't matter so much but the rifle is a biggy. I got the rifle FLS dies set right for his chamber now and sized 15 of each. All fit great other than a few of each,,so I turned the dies down to bump the shoulder back another .001 and all fits great with the wee little bit of resistance when closing the bolt like I did a few years back. Now I got to just make sure all of the rifle cases are trimmed correct and tumble them to make pretty. Yea this is bass akward and doubt very seriously that they need trimmed because I trimmed them .001 below MIN length a few years back and they have been fired one time,i lubed the case mouths good before resizing.
If you wonder why I didn't just neck size them, its because his rifles has a sloppy throat and it don't help. Both rifles will shoot sub,sub MOA at 400 yards and don't have the right bushings to do so anyway for his rifle. Both are 700's and I worked on them for months to get him ready for his elk hunt of a lifetime a few years back.
The 7mag will be loaded with the 140 TTSX and the 7-08 will get a 140 NBT just like I did a few years ago but got to see how the new jugs of powders preform. Some might laugh about a 140grn pill for elk hunting but he dusted a 368 3/8 elk with the 7mag two years ago and it went 50 yards and fell over. HE MADE A SPITY SHOT ALSO. The TTSX hit low into the shoulder bone and blew bone, lungs to hell and kept on going. The BARNES TTSX was never recovered and dusted that baby.
Anyway,i get paid to load a pile of rounds this weekend and have nothing better to do and whatever powder is left over is mine.
Lets see,a pound is 7000 grains and the 7mag takes 65.6 so 60 rounds will be 3936 grains so I get almost 1/2 pound for free. The 7-08 takes 42.2 so I get another 1/2 pound for free and he said I get $40 for loading the 357's but got to return the un used powder because UNIQUIE doesn't grow on trees anymore and his dad has had it for many years. Hell,i guess that's worth my time other than I hate loading pistol rounds. All bullets and primers was bought out of his pocket also and I keep the left overs.
