Ok, here are ELkhunters recipes. They are just as he posted them in the beginning. There have been a few of us make them in larger quantities so a larger mix may be available but its a simple to double his mixes. Ok the title names are what I have them labeled as - to give credit where it is due. The son in law and daughter even went so far as to make up labels for our storage cans and bench bottles.
Elk's Red Gun Oil
1 qt. Mobil one synthetic, 10w30
1/2 qt. ATF Four synthetic
4 oz. Hoppes No. 9
4 oz. 75-140 Synthetic gear lube
2 oz. Corrosion X
Mix well and store in metal container.
Elkhunter’s Heavy Duty Oil
Elkhunter posted this:
this is my formula for the heavy duty stuff. I use this on the slides of my semi autos like the M & P, Glock, 1911 and Sig.
For a small batch to try, I broke it down for you.
2 oz. Marine Lower Unit Oil, Synthetic Mercury works best
1 oz 75-140 synthetic gear lube
1/2 oz ATF 4
1/2 oz 30 wt. synthetic oil, Mobil One
The secret ingredient is the lower unit oil. It does not emulsify with water. You can blow a seal in an outboard lower unit, take in water, and the lube still works. The sticking agent will adhere the lube to the gears. In fact, you can drain a lower and the gears will run for 30 minutes on the oil stuck to them. I used this in my racing days.
This lube does not evaporate very quickly from the rails and does not seem to run off as the gun is stored.
Elk’s High Mountain Gun Cleaner
Original:
4 oz. Shooter's Choice
2 oz. Kroil
1 oz. Hoppes 9
1 oz. Free All
1 oz. Remington 40x bore cleaner
I have also a batch made up with 1 oz. of Sea Foam instead of the 40x. That one the jury is still out on.
