Oh, wait...
Wrong green stuff...
Froglube is COCONUT OIL!!!
Yeah, we conjectured about it before, but I investigated it.
So here is what happened. I could not find my Froglube. Either one, the liquid or the gel. Looked everywhere. But by golly I'm not going to go out and buy another thing of Froglube when I already have TWO. Dagnabbit.
So that got me thinking about the talk about Froglube being coconut oil. Maybe I should buy some coconut oil and try it.
So first I looked on Amazon. Yeah, pretty cheap compared to Froglube. But do I want processed coconut oil, liquid coconut oil, hydrogenated coconut oil, cold expeller pressed coconut oil, organic coconut oil, extra virgin coconut oil, pure fractionated coconut oil, or organic refined coconut oil?
You can buy a whole gallon of "organic coconut oil refined" on Amazon for $23.95!
While I was at the supermarket today, I decided to see if they had coconut oil. Sure 'nuf, they had processed coconut oil, liquid coconut oil, hydrogenated coconut oil, cold expeller pressed coconut oil, organic coconut oil, extra virgin coconut oil, pure fractionated coconut oil...but no organic refined coconut oil.
Some was clear liquid, some was yellow liquid, some was yellow liquid with globs of solid white, some was clear liquid with solid white at the top, some was solid yellow, some was solid white. I liked the looks of the solid white (organic, unrefined, cold expeller pressed, but only "virgin" not "extra virgin" ). Plus it had a two year expiration date.
First impression: Just like WHITE Froglube with a fresh coconut smell instead of minty. It actually smells a lot better than Froglube! Methinks the mint is to hide the coconut smell so you won't know what it is...
I decided to do the full Froglube treatment on a couple of knives using the coconut oil. I mean, if they rust I can just sand them down, no harm done... If this stuff had been green and minty, I would NOT have known the difference! It was just like the Froglube gel. Exactly the same. Felt the same, behaved the same. It is REALLY slippery stuff!
Today's conclusion: Looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck. Now I have to see if it swims and lays duck eggs.
