Got this urge to drop the 6.8 SPC upper as it is basically a duplicate of the 6.5 Grendel I already have. Then started to think about all of that 6.8 Brass I have and the 6.8 BCG. So the idea went like this; the 357 Harrett is a necked up and shortened 30-30 that headspaces on the shoulder, I still have my 357 H dies, what if I necked up the 6.8, which is a 30 Rem necked down to 277, to a 30 cal, it would then be a slightly shorter rimless 30-30, then necked it up again to .357 I would have something close to a rimless 357 Harrett and a real porker and bear thumper in an AR-15. So I called McGowen barrels and they were just before making a run of 358 barrels and they make AR barrels for the new IN based 358 Wildcats to meet the dumb game law up that way. Then I ran across the 358 MGP at the www.MGPcustom.com site. Mike, the MGP, has been working on this deal since 2008 and has built a 358 MGP which is the same Harrett type cat based on the 6.8SPC with a neck about half the length of the original Harrett with the original shoulder moved forward for an AR-15. Hum, perhaps I could get the development already done. Then a guy from Texas noted that he just ran 2,510 fps with Mike's round shooting a 180gr Speer Hot Core and here I sit waiting for my 358 MGP barrel after begging off on the McGowen barrel order. This baby has a 38.1gr water capacity with a case length of 1.64 inches and 2.25 OAL. Mike has a .5 inch 5 shot group with a 200gr on his site. The cartridge in the AR-15 is close to duplicating the 35 Remington in a little light weight AR-15. I will show you some pictures after I get the barrel in and start building the upper. Mike has a few pictures on his web site.
Right now I have an RRA bridged, flat top upper and an Operator free float handguard pluse all of the trinkets to make it function, gas block, tube, etc. I also have a few boxes of old silhouette 357-358 bullets suitable for the auto gun, pistol bullets with a flat lead point do not feed well, but the Truncated cone should do well.
